Duluth is best known for its super-big lake shore and super-big contributions to global taconite shipping. And now the Air-Conditioned City can add an even cooler draw: The first-ever Super Big Block Party. Organized by Duluth record label Chaperone Records, the September 5 blowout will bring a stellar cast of Minnesota acts to a stage outside of the Red Herring Lounge in downtown Duluth.
Topping the bill is rapper Lizzo, whose recent quest for world domination has included performing on Letterman, opening for Sleater-Kinney, and having a song appear on HBO's Girls. Professional party-starter Har Mar Superstar, gregarious pal to everyone in the indie-rock world, will also perform, along with blues-folk ace Charlie Parr, Trampled by Turtles offshoot Dead Man Winter, and Twin Cities hip-hop pioneers Heiruspecs. Homegrown artists Red Mountain, Toby Thomas Churchill, and Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank round out the rest of the lineup.
