Dessa plans an intimate benefit show at the MIA

Fresh off of a brief but successful U.S. tour earlier this month, Dessa has announced plans for a special local show at the MIA (not with M.I.A., as I initially, and awesomely, misread the press release). The Doomtree vocalist/MC will be performing at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts' Reception Hall on Thursday, February 28, at an event the museum is billing as "An Evening With Dessa."
In addition to hopefully getting a chance to hear some new songs from Dessa's forthcoming record at the show (alongside her impressive back catalog of hits), this performance will also serve to benefit a new teen scholarship set up by the museum as part of their ongoing commitment to area youth programs.
Tickets for Dessa's special, intimate performance at the MIA go on-sale on Wednesday, January 30 at 10 a.m. The tickets can be purchased through the MIA website, or by calling 612.870.3000. Ticket sales from this event will go directly towards the newly set-up scholarship which will further the education of under-served teens in the area.
"The MIA is thrilled to have Dessa, a local mentor to teens and young adults, partner with us for the inaugural event of our new series, which was developed to benefit our youth programs," says Kim Huskinson, the MIA's marketing manager. "Our new strategic initiative calls for increasing engagement with teens of all backgrounds, and raising awareness for our youth programs."
Hopefully, this performance by Dessa will be just the beginning of an intimate, and beneficial, series of live music events hosted by the MIA which will only serve to strengthen their artistic and philanthropic bond with the Twin Cities.
