Desdamona headlines new all-girl night at the Fine Line
The all-female monthly series 'Who You Calling A Bitch?: A Fearless Female Function' kicks off Sunday night at the Fine Line, featuring prolific local hip-hop artist Desdamona. Renowned for her spoken-word skills and uncompromising, woman-championing attitude, she will bring her fierce lyrics to the stage along with Alicia Steele & The Endeavors as well as powerhouse jazz vocalist Rookai.
Desdamona just dropped a brand new video ("The Comeback"), and is in the middle of a year-long blog series titled "365 Days of Female MCs". She is a founding member of the B-Girl-Be festival, which celebrates female hip-hop artists. As a heavy player in the usually male-dominated scene and an activist for women's causes (she's playing a breast-cancer fundraiser in Duluth on Saturday), she's a natural choice to kick things off.
The idea for the monthly series comes from Fine Line booker and Book of Right On frontman David Joe Holiday, and will aim to celebrate the many talented female musicians and artists from the Twin Cities. 21+. $4. 7 p.m. 318 First Ave. N., Minneapolis; 612.338.8100.
