Curtiss A birthday bash tomorrow night with Dave Rave
Tireless local rocker Curtiss A, the man behind the annual marathon John Lennon tribute shows, is celebrating his 60th birthday this weekend with a stellar show at the Entry that features the Tisdales, the Mad Ripple, and Canadian rocker Dave Rave, who will be sitting in with locals Sons of Gloria.
Dave Rave is in town to record with the Tisdales' Rich Mattson at his Sparta Sound studio near Duluth, and tonight's gig will be his last in town before heading out to L.A. to attend the Celebration of Canadian Music Excellence as part of the Grammys next month.
For those unfamiliar, Dave "Rave" DesRoches is a punk-rock influenced guitar player and singer (formerly of Teenage Head) who has lately plied a more poppy, psychedelic '60s rock sound in the vein of Wreckless Eric. He's made a name for himself as an established session guitar player, and has sat in with the likes of Alex Chilton and Daniel Lanois.
Tomorrow night's show will be a cool chance to catch Dave in action along with a handful of Twin Cities rock mainstays.
For more on Curtiss A's 60th birthday festivities, tune into Freewheelin' on KFAI this coming Wednesday, February 2 at 2 p.m., when Curtiss A will sit in with host Jackson Buck for a two-hour free-form program.
CURTISS A'S 60TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION with the Tisdales, Dave Rave & the Sons of Gloria, Curtiss A & the Jerks of Fate, and the Mad Ripple takes place tomorrow night, SATURDAY, JANUARY 29, at the 7th ST. ENTRY. 18+. $7. 8 p.m.
