Coach Said Not To: Self-released EP
Not since Tulip Sweet left town has a local group given us a big, pink balloon of a song, pricked it with sarcasm or a well-placed motherfucker, and watched us jump. Eva Mohn punctuates sweet melodies with chattering verses about thrift-store shirts and cute boys who don't speak English. The rest of the band accompanies her caffeinated banter with sweeping waltzes and two-steps disguised as pop. This is modern storytelling, made to hold the ears of the most attention-deficient while appeasing the rest of us who just want to bounce around a bit.
