City Planner: Weekend Edition (11/18-19)
Baby Loves Disco @ Foundation
: "When music historians analyze disco's downfall in the late '70s, they often point to its shift from a sexually charged subculture to a corporate phenomenon that made it all the way to Sesame Street
. Considering that legendary Paradise Garage DJ Larry Levan's first-ever remix was 1978's 'C Is for Cookie,' by Cookie Monster & the Girls, maybe that ubiquity just ensured a new generation of boogie-feverish types who've grown up to swear by Daft Punk and Basement Jaxx. While the national dance night--er, afternoon--phenomenon Baby Loves Disco was set up as a way for young, hip parents to party and socialize without ditching their kids, it also aims to be an alternative to the corporate sugar-buzz of the mainstream kiddie-entertainment industry, with healthy snacks, noisemakers, and bubble machines to keep toddlers entertained. Any excuse to replace Barney with Giorgio Moroder is a welcome one."
