Caroline Smith and the Goodnight Sleeps, Murs headline Augsburg's Spring Fest
It may not quite feel like it today, but spring has definitely sprung here in Minneapolis, and Augsburg College is planning a big celebration of the occasion this Saturday. Spring Fest is taking place at Augsburg's Murphy Square on April 21, and will feature a stellar, all-day music showcase headlined by Caroline Smith & the Goodnight Sleeps and Murs that should reward students and music fans alike for making it through another Minnesota winter.
The early part of Spring Fest is a free, all-local showcase that runs from 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m., featuring performances by Caroline Smith & the Goodnight Sleeps, Chastity Brown, Zoo Animal, Dustin Thomas, Portage, and the Further Adjustments.
Following those performances, MN Activist has arranged a sure to be enlightening panel discussion lead by local MC/spoken word artist Guante, that will focus on where social and political change originates, and how we can be more socially/politically active on both a personal level and as a community. This event is also free and open to the public, and will take place from 5-6 p.m. in Sateren Auditorium (adjacent to Murphy Square).
And the festive, music-filled day does not stop there, as Murs is set to headline Spring Fest's hip-hop showcase which begins at 8 p.m. in Augsburg's Murphy Square. The innovative, California-based MC will be making his first local appearance since putting on yet another triumphant Paid Dues Festival, a wildly successful annual gathering of hip-hop heavyweights which he helped create.
In addition to Murs, M.anifest, Audio Perm, and Yakub will also be performing at the hip-hop showcase, which will run from 8-11:30 p.m., and will surely bring Spring Fest to a rousing close. The hip-hop showcase is a ticketed event, and a limited number of $10 tickets are available only at Studiiyo23.
