Brother Ali's Mourning In America tour dates, First Ave in October

After setting off the Entry back in May, rallying in Wisconsin, giving us a soulful, somber taste of his new record, and recently getting arrested to help bring attention to the foreclosure problem here in Minnesota, Brother Ali is finally set to hit the road on a massive, 38-date Mourning In America tour that will bring the venerable MC back home to First Avenue on October 5. Ali will be backed on all of the dates by Blank Tape Beloved, the live band which he debuted at the Entry, with support coming from rising Stones Throw artist Homeboy Sandman, the soulful stylings of the Reminders, and DJ Sosa.

This promises to be a breakout tour for Brother Ali, not just because the focus will no doubt be centered on the stirring songs from his forthcoming record, Mourning In America and Dreaming In Color, but performing with a live band really brings out a raw, dynamic style in Ali that will no doubt please his longtime fans, but garner him plenty of new fans in the process.

The new record drops on August 21, and the tour starts on September 12, so fans will have plenty of time to take his new songs to heart while committing them to memory before they get to hear them come to life on stage. Ali's hitting some pretty celebrate rooms throughout this tour, from the 9;30 Club in Washington, D.C., to the Bowery Ballroom in New York, the Metro in Chicago, the Fillmore in San Francisco, and the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles, with all places in between.

It's a sprawling, demanding tour that finds Ali playing 38 shows in seven weeks, but the MC seems to have hit a creative (and energetic) peak as of late, and he thankfully shows no sign of slowing down. Catch him and his creative friends on tour if you get the chance, you won't be disappointed.

Tickets for Brother Ali's First Avenue show go on-sale this Friday, June 29 at 11:00 a.m. It's an 18-and-up show, and tickets are $15.
