Bon Iver book Radio City Music Hall residency, unveil Bjork cover
Bon Iver have been on quite a never-ending trek since they played the Orpheum Theatre back in September. And Justin Vernon and company are definitely a different band now -- at least in terms of public perception and recognition.
Long-time supporters won't be surprised that their Grammy-winning material is fit for stages both large (Coachella and Bonnaroo) and small (the Zorn Arena in Eau Claire), and big in Europe, too.
But Bon Iver's drawing power just hit a new milestone: One of the most prestigious venues in all of the United States, New York's Radio City Music Hall, is booking them for more dates than most acts get to play there in a lifetime.
Yes, the band is doing a four-night stand at the legendary venue -- which has hosted Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Johnny Mathis, Ray Charles, Itzhak Perlman, Jarvis Cocker, and countless others -- on September 19-22.
At this point, there should be little doubt that the delicate, hushed tones of Bon Iver's albums translates gloriously to a large audience, and the magical acoustics of the room could be ripe for recording a live album (hint, hint) -- but can the band keep the attention of the city that never sleeps for four consecutive days? We will just have to wait and see. They may have to dress up a bit for the lavish setting.
For those of you who are waiting patiently for Bon Iver to schedule another show in our area, Vernon and his crew just released an iTunes session which features many live cuts from his Grammy winning Bon Iver, Bon Iver album, as well as their cover of Bjork's "Who Is It," which the band frequently works into their live performances as of late.
