Billy Joel Must Really Like Big Press Conferences

The piano man strikes again.

The piano man strikes again.

Today, the dedicated music press made their way to Target Center to bathe in the splendor of a staged event for them to cover. A surprise guest waited behind the curtain, but something about this setup felt familiar. The speculation was almost identical to... an event much like this one staged over at the Xcel in St. Paul five years ago.

As some folks might recall, it was not for U2, the Rolling Stones, or even a Prince concert. It was Billy Joel (with Elton John). And today was no different.
Prior to Joel's 2009 show at the Xcel, he performed with Elton John at Target Center in 2001, and solo in 1999. These two shows are among the best-attended shows in the history of the arena. And that's why the "Happy 1999" clue given out by Target Center earlier this week makes sense.

Here's the evidence from Star Tribune's Christ Riemenschneider:

Piano man + piano eclairs. I don't think they're announcing Metallica.

Joel's 2015 tour already has a string of dates including Dallas, Miami, Syracuse, Atlanta, and several at New York's Madison Square Garden. He'll be at Target Center on May 16, 2015.
