Bill Hinkley tribute concert set for July 7
Longstanding folk scene staple Bill Hinkley, who passed away at the end of last month, will be honored with a tribute concert and fundraiser on July 7 at the Nicollet Pavillion. Organized by Hinkley's friends and collaborators, the memorial concert will include "some of the finest players from the jazz, blues, bluegrass, country, singer-songwriter and other music camps... during and after a program honoring the legendary musician."
See the full details and the schedule of slated performers below, and for more information on donations and memorials in Hinkley's name visit the event's Facebook page.
The tribute to and memorial concert for Bill Hinkley, the legendary musician, teacher, performer and original member of Garrison Keillor's Powdermilk Biscuit Band, is slated for July 7, 2010, at the Pavilion on Nicollet Island, in Minneapolis from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
The Pavilion is located at 40 Power Street along the Mississippi River, just over the Hennepin Avenue Bridge in downtown Minneapolis.
In memory of Bill and to celebrate his life, some of the finest players from the jazz, blues, bluegrass, country, singer-songwriter and other music camps are slated to perform (See List below), during and after a program honoring the legendary musician, who died May 26, 2010. Catered hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar will be available. A donation is suggested to cover expenses. Any proceeds from the event -- or ongoing contributions -- will go toward a scholarship fund established in Hinkley's name at the West Bank School of Music and the Homestead Pickin' Parlor where he taught.
The following are expected to perform, with more being added:
Blind Moose Revue (Bill Smith, George Traugott et al)
Dakota Dave Hull
The Geezers (Jug band that includes Mary Dushane, Peter Albrecht and others)
Probable but not confirmed:
Papa John, Bob Stelnicki (Sorry Muthas)
Hip Pocket (A jazzyish ensemble that Bill played with)
Al Jesperson (Middle Spunk Creek Boys)
Dick Hensold, Others
Various configurations with those named above will most likely take place as well.
