The guacamole division of Austin, Minnesota-based Hormel Foods is ramping up PR efforts, and that could mean the sweet, sweet taste of cash for one Twin Cities singer-songwriter.

Pun-rooted processed guac giant Wholly Guacamole, an arm of Hormel's MegaMex Foods, is hosting an open-mic contest Thursday at the Riverview Cafe in Minneapolis, where 20 aspiring musicians will battle it out for $500. The winning act will then vie for a $10,000 grand prize, which includes opening for a "national act" at September's Live Wholly™ Festival (unclear where this fest is going down).

The Live Wholly Tour is throwing similar regional qualifiers in Chicago, New Orleans, L.A., and Nashville. Will the campaign change supermarket habits of the coveted millennial consumer demographic? That's the chunky and/or creamy dream.

Details on how to enter Thursday's contest are available here. The free event -- doors at 6:30 p.m.; competition at 7 p.m. -- is open to the public; guacamole swag is expected.
