Slug was in St. Paul bright and early this morning for an appearance on the Current's morning show, where he revealed a new run of local ates that will find him reprising last year's successful "Welcome to Minnesota" tour. Atmosphere will bring Kill the Vultures, Big Quarters, MaLLy, and BK-One on the road for a week of consecutive shows that kicks off in Mankato and will make a stop in the First Avenue Mainroom on Wednesday, February 22.
While he was on the Morning Show today, Slug explained that they added a First Ave date to the run this year to discourage Twin Cities fans from snatching up tickets to the smaller cities, saying that Bemidji in particular had an eager population of young concertgoers. "I want to play for all the 'real Minnesotans,' as Michele Bachmann would say," Slug joked. When hosts Steve Seel and Jill Riley asked if he thought Bachmann would come out to one of the shows, Slug said, "I hope she comes, and I hope she'll go ice fishing with me."
Here are the Welcome to Minnesota 2012 dates:
2.20 - Mankato, MN - Verizon Wireless Center Ballroom
2.21 - Bemidji, MN - Sanford Center Ballroom
2.22 - Minneapolis, MN - First Avenue
2.23 - Duluth, MN - Clyde Iron Works
