Ant and Slug experiencing literal Fishing Blues

Ant and Slug experiencing literal Fishing Blues

It's been nigh upon two years since we've seen a new album from Minnesota hip-hop titans Atmosphere.

But the wait is over, fans of locally sourced indie-rap. Rapper Slug and DJ Ant announced Wednesday that their eighth LP, Fishing Blues, is due out August 12 via Rhymesayers Entertainment (pre-orders available here). The album will feature guest appearances from DOOM, Aesop Rock, Kool Keith, Dem Atlas, and others. Here's the tracklist:

  1. Like A Fire

  2. Ringo

  3. Besos

  4. Pure Evil (feat. I.B.E)

    itemprop

  5. Perfect

  6. Seismic Waves

  7. Next To You (feat. deM atlaS)

  8. The Shit That We’ve Been Through

  9. When The Lights Go Out (feat. DOOM and Kool Keith)

  10. No Biggie

  11. Everything

  12. Chasing New York (feat. Aesop Rock)

  13. Sugar

  14. Fishing Blues (feat. the Grouch)

  15. Won't Look Back (feat. Kim Manning)

  16. Anybody That I’ve Known

  17. Still Be Here

  18. A Long Hello
Check out the video for Fishing Blues single "Ringo" below. A press release describes it thusly:

"The video shows a past-his-prime actor playing a king and jester, mocked by his peers and those that once respected his work — a sharp look at today’s pop culture environment where today’s heroes are tomorrow’s joke."

Will Fishing Blues be thematically linked to Slug's recent #DadRap branding? Stay tuned. Atmosphere's last album, 2014's Southsiders, was met with mostly warm reactions from critics.

Among the shows of note:

Atmosphere is a late addition to the Summer Set festival Aug. 13 in Somerset, Wisconsin. The beloved, never-subtweeted tastemakers at City Pages consider it the region's best fest! An all-star Minnesota showcase — Atmosphere, Lizzo, Lifter Puller, and Brother Ali — planned Sept. 2 for Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheater was unveiled earlier this month.
