Art-A-Whirl 2016: Music lineups for Grumpy's (ft. Babes in Toyland!) + 331 Club

Twenty-one years in, Art-A-Whirl continues to be the best way to experience the vibrant visual arts scene in northeast Minneapolis. It's also (unofficially) a great chance to sample the local music scene.

While the Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association’s Art-A-Whirl programming is holding its steadfast commitment to showcasing the area’s coolest visual arts and artists, venues like 331 Club and Grumpy’s Northeast carved out some rad lineups coinciding with the art fest’s May 20-22 schedule.

The only thing better than touring a bunch of art studios all day? Finishing that day off by downing a few beers while listening to these rad musicians.

While Grumpy’s Art-A-Whirl-adjacent setup isn’t just music — they promise lots of visual art while NE Tattoo will host a pop-up ink tent — the venue’s music lineup is stacked with big names, including local grunge-punk heroes Babes in Toyland and lo-fi Bay Area punkers Shannon & the Clams. Here’s Grumpy’s current music roster, with other artists to be announced.
