For the past few years, has put together an Are You Local? showcase which not only shines a spotlight on some emerging area bands, but also sends them (and local music fans alike) off to SXSW with a musical bang.

This year, the Are You Local? party is set for Friday, March 1 at Mill City Nights, and features one of the strongest lineups yet, with Solid Gold, Doomtree's Sims, Wiping Out Thousands, and L'Assassins, along with the lucky winner of the best new band competition held earlier that night.

Like in years past, there will be three best new band finalists competing for the coveted spot on the big stage, and this year that competition will be held in the Nether Bar connected to Mill City Nights.

The winner of that competition (which you can enter here), will not only get to play on the Mill City Nights stage, but they will also get $1,000 to help them get down to Austin, as well as a spot performing on the Smith MN Music Showcase at SXSW.

But no matter who wins the competition, the lineup is already a strong one, with Solid Gold still riding the momentum of their wonderful recent record, Eat Your Young, alongside the ultra-talented Doomtree MC Sims, the electro-rock edge of Wiping Out Thousands, and the infectious riffs of L'Assassins.

Tickets are on sale now, and cost $13 in advance and $15 the day of the show. It's an 18+ event, with doors opening at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 1, and showtime starting at 7:30 that night.
