The Electric Fetus is hosting another free in-store performance tonight as part of its MinnEconomy series, featuring two bands whose records have been spun quite a few times in the Gimme Noise offices lately. Experimental viola player and looping artist Anders Ponders piqued our interest when he released his debut album, Nodes of Overtone, back in November (read our review here).
Here's a video of Anders playing the first track off of Nodes of Overtone, "The Discus Incident," live at the Bedlam Theatre during his CD-release show:
Minor Kingdom came to our attention due to the fact that their debut album was released on the same Grain Belt Records label as another of our local favorites, Red Pens. Unlike the Red Pens' hard-hitting rock, however, Minor Kingdom plays subdued folk with muted flourishes of snare drum rolls and electronic samples. Here's a clip of Minor Kingdom mastermind Kristian Melom and drummer Ryan Lovan playing at the Beat Coffeehouse:
Minor Kingdom plays at 7 p.m., followed by Anders Ponders at 7:45 at the Electric Fetus (2000 4th Ave. S., Minneapolis). All ages. Free.
