Mumford and Sons' new single "I Will Wait" (from the band's upcoming album Babel, due September 24) has been playing on the airwaves almost incessantly since its release just last month in early August, and now, finally, fans have some eye candy to attach to the unavoidably uplifting track.
The official music video was recorded live at the band's much-anticipated performance at Colorado's stunningly beautiful Red Rocks Amphitheater. The video is shot in this grainy, vintage-y filter, and as the camera glides over the overwhelmingly sold-out crowd, warm bodies bouncing with an enthusiastic bliss, it's suddenly hard to imagine Mumford and Sons ever performing to a smaller audience.
As the camera zeroes in on the captivatingly handsome leading man, Marcus Mumford, around the 2:50 mark, one can imagine the pulses of impressionable viewers quickening. He's all brooding, sweaty stateliness -- singing with his flinty, rugged voice about how he is both manly and sensitive:
"So I'll be bold
As well as strong
And use my head alongside my heart
So take my flesh
And fix my eyes
That tethered mind free from the lies"
And it just totally works for him, doesn't it?
Then the band is back again, and it's a riotous, rapturous crescendoing thing, with all the Mumford and Sons players and their extended family playing like maniacs. Love them or hate them, the video for "I Will Wait" certainly convinces viewers that Mumford and Sons is more than capable of performing with the sort of breathless ardent that will keep their fan base alive and rabid. Ultimately, "I Will Wait" makes you want to dance, and sing along, and possibly weep with joy. And it definitely makes you want to immediately purchase tickets to the next Mumfy show nearest you.
Unfortunately, the band hasn't announced any further U.S. tour dates for 2012. They're heading to Australia and New Zealand from October 12 through November 6. So, 'til they return to us, we'll probably just have to settle for looping the video. We will wait for you, Marcus!
