A dignified, British celebration of a French holiday
OK, Brit’s is an English bar, and the events planned for their Bastille Day celebration aren’t particularly French, but hear me out: there’s some cool stuff happening here this Sunday.
Brit’s Pub is a dignified British bar and restaurant specializing in fish ‘n’ chips, lawn bowling, and weekly pub quizzes. They also know how to throw a party for holidays that has nothing to do with the British. Not only have I enjoyed several rowdy St. Patrick Day celebrations in the downstairs pub, but for the past several years Brit’s has celebrated the Bastille Day, a distinctly French holiday.
This Sunday, the bar will have live entertainment all day long on the outside garden patio. If you’ve never been to their rooftop, this is an excellent chance to check out one of the best in the Twin Cities (their neighbor Solera has a pretty awesome downtown skyscraper view as well).
The party kicks off with the final theatrical presentation of The Compleat Wrks of Wllm Shkspr (abridged), which has been running weekly at the pub. English musician Graham Parker will perform his unique brand of angry rock and folks sound at 6 p.m. The evening finished up with a screening of Moulin Rouge at dusk. A frantically colorful film about a French burlesque cabaret starring an Australian and a Scott.
The event starts at 3:30 p.m. with food and drink specials throughout the day. Brit's is location in downtown Minneapolis at 1110 Nicollet Mall. Call 612.332.3908 for more info.
