What does St. Paul have that Minneapolis doesn't? The capital city has its own almanac, for starters. Now in its fourth year, this annual publication features essays, poems, reviews, stories, and even a limerick or two. Come celebrate the Almanac tonight.
Though big local names like Garrison Keillor and David Mura are listed as contributing writers, anyone inspired by St. Paul was invited to submit works. The result is a diverse mix of tributes, commentary, and comedy from students, longtime residents, new immigrants, journalists, and nostalgic ex-St. Paul residents.
The opening celebration this Thursday, September 17 will feature readings, appetizers, art, and a cash bar from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Black Dog Café in Lowertown (308 Prince Street). For more info on the 2010 Saint Paul Almanac, or to purchase a copy, visit saintpaulalmanac.com.
