So you've learned all about stalactites and stalagmites, and you think caves are homes for scary flocks of bats just waiting to get tangled in your hair? Well, there's much more to those holes in the ground than you might have thought. Just ask cave explorers Nancy Holler-Aulenbach and Hazel Barton, a fearless pair of women who rappel down the sides of the Grand Canyon, kayak relentless rapids, and journey to the Greenland tundra in order to experience the mighty labyrinths and cathedral-like ceilings of the world's deepest and darkest caves. Their mission is to discover new kinds of extremeophiles--microorganisms that thrive in the most isolated places, and which may well provide cures for many human ailments. Along the way, they experience some of the most beautiful and deadly caves on earth, made all the more spectacular when displayed on a massive, 90-foot IMAX screen. Viewers will find themselves holding their breath as French caver Janot Lamberton scales down 500 feet into an ice cave, and Barton scuba dives through Dos Ojos, a narrow underwater cave on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula. Liam Neeson narrates the action, and the Moody Blues provide an appropriately ethereal soundtrack.
