CLOSED Let the British have their gastropubs, for here in the Midwest we are taking it to the next level: Meet the Town Talk, the world's first gastro-diner. Pancakes? Check. Milkshakes? Check. A glossy, stainless-steel lunch counter straight out of a 1960s pop culture museum? Double check. But there are also milkshakes made with next-generation add-ins like fancy French liqueurs and top-shelf bourbon, burgers topped with a snazzy sauce, and spicy harissa, line caught halibut specials. Yes, it's a diner with a maitre'd: The Town Talk is the product of a trio of Gen-X fine-dining refugees who wanted to do things the way they wanted to do them. The resulting combination of massive drink list, locally sourced pork, baskets of fried pickle planks, late-night hours, and always loud and crazy dining room has proved that a gastro-diner is exactly what south Minneapolis wants right now.
