This re-vamp of the Mill City Cafe is anything but playing it safe. At lunchtime the Moroccan beef hoagie with walnut yogurt is packed with flavor. Dinner is a real experimental stage with dishes like braised octopus over purple poi with caramelized fennel. But mostly the Mill NE is a veritable beacon for brunch-goers, with hits like their fluffy and textural wild rice pancakes; a biscuit-scone hybrid they’ve dubbed the “biscone”, which serves as a sturdy, soak-uppable base for creamy, peppery sausage gravy; and Ecuadorian baked eggs with subtly-seasoned black beans and fresh salsa. Best of all, they don’t just save this in-between meal for the weekends. Instead brunch here is served every day from 10:00 AM to 3 PM. So think about playing hooky and get on with some excellent day drinking too. We highly recommend the Fizz of Eternal Life, an egg white-topped mixture of lime and Green Chartreuse charged in the old fashioned soda shop way, with acid phosphate.
