CLOSED Southern Lunch and dinner daily Full bar Street parking Reservations not necessary What a difference 30 miles makes: Take a seat in a booth or on a barstool at the Boxcar and you'll soon be breathing secondhand smoke and swigging Spotted Cow, a sweet, yeasty farmhouse ale, from a mason jar. The Prescott, Wisconsin restaurant, located in the former home of Confluence, plays Minnesota's own up-to-the-moment music station, 89.3 The Current, for good reason: chef/owner Johnny Solomon fronts the local indie fave, Communist Daughter. Gambling machines in the back make the space feel casual, but the scratch-cooked food and black linens on the tables set it apart from the typical small town beer-and-burger joint. Solomon, who originally hails from Kansas City, specializes in Southern fare, with a few Midwestern nods. And the killer ribs and Guinness-marinated pulled pork are worth a trip from the Twin Cities.
