The Superior Hiking Trail is a 296-mile footpath that runs along the Lake Superior ridgeline, stretching from Dulth's North Shore up to the Canadian border. The trail features convenient parking lots that are typically located every five to 10 miles, allowing for shorter day hikes as well as more extensive camping excursions. There are 92 campsites located throughout the backcountry along the Superior Hiking Trail that require no fees, reservations, or permits to hike or camp within the designated areas. For a free brochure on 11 different day hikes along the trail and to ask any questions about current trail conditions, contact the SHT office located in Two Harbors, Minnesota, where there are hiking guides, pocket maps of the area, books, and other trail-related merchandise and information.
