Mixed Blood Theatre

1501 4th St. S. Minneapolis, MN 55454 | Minneapolis (Downtown) | 612-338-0937

Location Description:

For nearly four decades, Jack Reuler has ruled the roost at this converted firehouse in the Cedar-Riverside Neighborhood. As the neighborhood has changed, Mixed Blood has changed with it, reflecting the shifting demographics and concerns. Like the surrounding neighborhood, there is a dizzying clash of cultures on stage at Mixed Blood, with pieces exploring all sides of the American experience. In recent years, the company has also focused part of each season on works about people with disabilities, presenting an all-sign-language version of Gruesome Playground Injuries or explorations of autism in On The Spectrum. There is also a wicked wit at Mixed Blood, which helps to keep things from being too serious: Learn to be Latina, The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity and Avenue Q have all explored modern-day life with a satiric edge. To continue to reach all audiences, Mixed Blood shifted to a unique ticketing policy several years ago called “Radical Hospitality.” Essentially, anyone can come up to the theater the night of a production and have a chance to get in for free. A set amount of seats are set aside every night to be filled on a first come, first served basis. Patrons who want to ensure a seat can reserve ahead of time, though there is a fee for doing that.
