Wise Acre Eatery is the restaurant for which Twin Cities locavores have long been waiting. Two grown-up farm boys, Scott Endres and Dean Engelmann, owners of Tangletown Gardens, bought the building across the street, the former home of Liberty Custard, and turned it into a single-source, farm-to-table restaurant. The two own a farm near Plato, Minnesota, which supplies the restaurant with sustainably grown beef, pork, chicken, eggs, and produce. The1950s-era Standard Oil station is still covered in its vintage porcelain-enameled steel panels, and its grand garage doors open onto a small patio with umbrella-topped tables. There's beautiful greenery inside and out, and the space has a rustic-but-contemporary vibe. Salads, made from picked-daily greens, are stunning, but so are the meats, especially when they're turned into sausages, corn dogs, or burgers. For dessert, Wise Acre has retained the frozen custard, but this time it's local and organic.
