The Kenwood exemplifies what can happen when an old pro, in this case, award-winning chef Don Saunders, combines his classical French training and local restaurant connections with a willing ear and an open heart. Saunders has allowed his new venture to be influenced by the hopes and opinions of the people who are mostly likely to frequent it. What results is a restaurant that’s equal parts beloved neighborhood cafe and impressive destination dining. You can order with confidence just about anything from the dinner, brunch (served daily from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.), or even from the kids' menu like chicken noodle soup, steak frites, or gnocchi with peas and ham (available starting at 5 p.m.). Be sure to try the namesake burger made with Limousin beef, the buttery skate with cauliflower, and finish with sweet corn creme brulee. If you are there for a special occasion, check out the captain’s list for hard-to-find celebration bottles like unique rieslings, fine champagnes, and flagship wines from Ridge.
