Each of the cycle shops in town fills a particular niche, from the Grease Pit to the Angry Catfish. Penn Cycle falls squarely between the fixie-fixated crusty punks of the former and the spandex-clad bourgeoisie of the latter. Most of Penn’s worthwhile bikes run in the $1,000 to $2,000 range, and they stock a good selection of bags, clothing, helmets, and other accessories. If you’re a casual to moderately serious cyclist and you want a decent repair job for a fair price, Penn is the place to go. But go early, especially in the springtime, when the tune-up turnaround time at the Uptown location stretches to two weeks or more.
