The William L. McKnight-3M Omnitheater is a convertible IMAX Dome -- the only convertible dome theater in the United States -- on the fifth level of the Science Museum of Minnesota, located in the Riverfront area of downtown St. Paul. With creative roots dating back to 1978, the Omnitheater remains one of the leading pioneers in large-screen viewing experiences, having produced 11 original giant screen films that have been seen by 60 million people in 24 countries around the globe. The theater itself puts 375 film-goers right in the heart of the viewing experience, immersing them in a vivid, breathtaking visual experience that is unmatched in other theaters, but is also adaptable enough to show both giant-screen films as well as a variety of other digital formats. The Omnitheater regularly hosts films and screenings that coincide with exhibits taking place in the Science Museum, augmenting the learning experiences of both students and teachers for field trips and special events. Shows at the Omnitheater typically sell-out quickly, so advance ticket purchases are strongly recommended.
