When this St. Paul shop opened, fans would wind around the block for a chance to dine on Mojo Monkey Donuts' bits of fried dough heaven. The novelty has worn off, but the flavors have hardly diminished. Owner Lisa Clark studied as a bread maker before getting into the donut business. Her ways with the dough arts works into delectable flavors that linger on the tongue, the way a great sourdough develops flavor layers with every chew. The yeasted donuts are glazed in a shatter-crisp crust, while the cakes are wonderfully textured with fat, tender crumbs and topped with confectionery wonders like chocolate ganache and almond-spiked vanilla icing. They're worth standing in line for, but luckily, you won't have to.
