Minneapolis is a city built around its parks and green areas. The Midtown Greenway Coalition is dedicated to preserving and enhancing the city’s signature path, a five-and-a-half-mile corridor developed out of an old railway line. The corridor features paths that allow bicyclists a safer and quicker route to travel around the city or just enjoy nature a few blocks from the bustle of Lake Street. The grassroots coalition has been at the forefront of developing and protecting this space, providing strong advocacy and also sponsoring programs and events for those who use the paths. There is an annual Community Bike Festival aimed at bringing new people to use the Greenway, the Greenway Glow that offers evening rides merged with an arts festival, and other events that aim to merge using the trail with the arts, entertainment and other recreation.
