Newly-remodeled Canterbury Park in Shakopee hits the spot for entertainment just south of the cities. Visitors can participate and bet on live horse races May through September, with scheduled races offered Thursdays –Sundays and a large outdoor seating area to get good views of the races from all angles. Their website has a simple “how to play the horses” downloadable key to give first-time betters tips and instructions before they first visit the track. Other gambling options include 24-hour table games like blackjack, poker, Texas Hold’em, and more. Simulcast racing is another alternative at Canterbury, where 500 TVs show up-close action from racetracks across the country, with betting available from 10 a.m. to midnight and the option of booking a private table/TV. Food options at Canterbury include everything from a weekend buffet to Buffalo Wild Wings, Mexican and American options, desserts, and full bars on all three levels. The venue’s entire indoors is smoke-free, with a smoking-only section outside.
