Restaurateur Dean Vlahos, founder of the Champps chain, is famously connected, and his Redstone restaurants have become places for the wealthy to relax when they're not at the country club. Vlahos has even been called the de-facto mayor of Minnetonka, because he seems to know everyone. His latest venture, BLVD Kitchen and Bar, has quickly become popular with the after-work crowd, but it has prettier décor and a more foodie focus than the typical freeway-lining chain eatery. (T.G.I. Fridays certainly doesn't serve Brussles sprouts with pancetta and fresh thyme, or have different color napkins to coordinate with diners' outfits.) Though BLVD's menu has larger ambitions, its best offerings are bar food and alcoholic beverages. The ribs, for example, are jammy sweet and smoky--leading with a whiff of vinegar and finishing with a mess on the fingers. And the slider trio--beef burger, tender fried chicken, and a coleslaw-topped pulled pork--also goes down lickety split.
