Three years ago, it was announced that Dave Chappelle was coming to Minneapolis for a handful of shows. Then those gigs rapidly sold out. Then more were announced, and they promptly sold out too. In the end, eight or so shows were announced, and all eight sold out. Things went so swimmingly that First Avenue added his name to one of their stars.
And now he's coming back. This evening, it was announced that Chappelle will be returning to First Avenue for three nights, with two shows scheduled each evening.
The Mainroom events will take place each night at 6 and 9:30 p.m. from Tuesday, May 31 through Thursday, June 2. You have to be 18 or older to attend, and tickets will set you back $65. Ticket buyers can only purchase two general admission passes for each show, and cell phones are super banned at this event. (Seriously, this part is in red lettering on the press release — leave it in your car.)
Tickets go on sale Friday at noon on eTix. So get ready to move fast before they sell out, as they usually do.
And if you're reading this and it's way too late to buy tickets, take comfort knowing that you might spot Chappelle out and about while he's in the Cities. A few years ago, he even made some new friends, smoking hookah at a bar until 6 a.m.
