Camille LeFevre

In the past decade, the Twin Cities has become especially fertile ground for socially engaged art and its practitioners. Think Rebecca Krinke, Kate Casanova, Marcus Young, and Amanda Lovelee, for starters. Or how about the women of Low Tech High Joy (Karen Kasel, Marlaine Cox), and the team behind Works Progress (Shanai Matteson, Colin Kloecker)? Stuff them and a dozen other artists into a gallery, and who knows what to expect — except the unexpected. During the opening reception, Casanova will introduce participants to the culinary joys of edible insects (crickets, mealworms, and wax worms are part of the buffet), while Janaki Ranpura will encourage guests to craft their thoughts into a business-card-size statement. The public party is from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, September 12.
