Post Physical: Visual Reactions to the Post-Internet Age

Post Physical: Visual Reactions to the Post-Internet Age

Camille Lefevre

Amid the perplexity of living in — not to mention attempting to define — the age of posts (post-modern, post-post modern, and now post-internet), one might find the mind crumbling under the sheer weight of so much future crammed into the present. Curator Nathaniel Smith, in assembling this new show at SOOlocal, attempts to investigate this phenomenon with artwork representing what's symptomatic of our supposed post-internet age. German artist, theorist, and performer Marisa Olson, who allegedly coined the term "post-internet art," recently expanded her definition to include "the symptoms of network culture." In Smith's show, this is manifest in a variety of media and meanings as mysterious as "post-internet" itself. There will be an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 28.
