For many Minnesotans, warmer weather means at least one trip to Shakopee with friends. Some drive out to Valleyfair, others to the Renaissance Festival, and then there are the folks who get excited for horse racing season at Canterbury Park. Events kicked off last weekend, but Memorial Day weekend will be big as usual, with the racetrack open on the holiday. Regular ongoing specials include $1 deals and cheap beer on Thursday, happy hour on Friday, and family-friendly activities on Sunday. As usual, many theme nights are planned. Fun events include the racing of bulldogs on Father's Day (June 15), a wine-focused night (June 27), Independence Day fireworks and festivities (July 3-4), extreme race day (July 19), Food Truck Fest (July 26 and August 30), and '80s night (August 9). New this year is the Chalk Pub, a beer bar featuring a variety of craft brews from local and national companies. For a complete schedule and list of happenings, visit www.canterburypark.com.
