Creative Dissent: Arts of the Arab World Uprisings

Intermedia Arts' latest event, "Creative Dissent," is a touring exhibition exploring the artistic output that has come about as the result of the Arab Spring movement. The featured pieces in this show — which include graffiti, cartoons, video, puppetry, and posters — stretch, challenge, and explore the ideas surrounding freedom of speech. Works also express a gamut of emotions, such as anger, frustration, joy, hopefulness, and relief. During the event, the south Minneapolis gallery and performance space will offer a variety of happenings, including an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 9; a roundtable discussion at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, hosted by Mizna, exploring the intersection of politics and art, especially in terms of recent uprisings in Egypt and Syria; and poster-making sessions at noon on Saturday, June 28, and August 23.
