http://www.gophersports.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=8400&SPID=3280&SPSID=38605 While the Golden Gopher football team has a rich, storied history, with seven National Championships dating back to the early part of the 1900's, their last came in 1960, and the team hasn't had much success since then. Their last Big Ten championship was all the way back in 1967, and the team has been mired in mediocrity or worse ever since. In 2009 the Gophers moved from the Metrodome to the newly built TCF Bank Stadium, a glorious outdoor facility on the U of M campus. The new stadium helped build a groundswell of support for the Gopher football team, but that hasn't really equated to as many victories as players, coaches, and supporters had hoped. The likable Jerry Kill is the team's coach, and hopefully has them heading in the right direction in the future. Beer service has just been started at TCF Bank Stadium (a rarity for Big Ten athletic events), and the plentiful vending options at the stadium are generally tasty and somewhat affordable. More >>

  • Gopher Men's Hockey

    1901 4th St. SE Minneapolis, MN 55455
    612-625-8365

http://www.gophersports.com/sports/m-hockey/minn-m-hockey-body.html The University of Minnesota men's hockey team is one of the most successful athletic programs for the Golden Gophers. In addition to numerous conference championships in the WCHA, the squad won the Division I NCAA Hockey Championships in both 2002 and 2003. The Gopher men's hockey team has always prided itself on recruiting mainly from the state of Minnesota, which means the fans' attachment to these homegrown athletes is deeply rooted in local pride. After playing their home games in an older portion of Williams Arena until 1993, the team moved to the distinctly modern Mariucci Arena the following season. In 2013, the Gopher men's hockey team recently joined the six-team Big 10 Conference, severing ties with the WCHA in an effort to strengthen the newly formed Big 10 hockey conference. More >>
