  • G.B. Leighton

    G.B. Leighton's Pickle Park

7820 University Ave. Fridley, MN 55432
    763-786-1515

http://www.gbleightonspicklepark.com Bottle service. It seems all the rage - we hear everyone talking about it, but do you ever get anything special with it? Well, if you're venturing out to G.B. Leighton's Pickle Park -- local rocker Brian Leighton is its namesake -- keep in mind that paying for bottle service also gets you a private seating area next to the large stage, which features regular performers of the local and national varieties. The place has a rock club meets sports bar vibe, and in addition to elevated six-person booths, features a 32-foot replica Gibson guitar mounted to the ceiling over the main bar. It goes without saying that G.B. himself can frequently be seen performing in the bar. Oh, and try the Fender Benders (tater skins with all the fixin's) or the Guitar Strings (onion strings). • Riverview Cafe & Wine Bar

    Riverview Cafe & Wine Bar

    3745 42nd Ave. S. Minneapolis, MN 55406
    612-729-4200

http://www.theriverview.net Do you drink wine fairly often, and wish you knew more about it? Do you find you can't take a class because your free time is occupied with watching your heirs chew on large plastic keys? Well, load up the car seats and head to the Riverview Wine Bar, the greatest thing to happen to sociable parents since the invention of the backyard barbecue. The Riverview is two establishments connected by a door. On one side is a coffee shop with a vast play area, toys, little tables, and so forth, along with couches for the grownups (and all the coffee drinks you could ever want); on the other side is a romantic wine bar with a fireplace, great snacks like olives and pizzas, and a wine list with a serious education mission. (Half a dozen wine flights are always available, which means you get three little glasses of wine chosen so that you can taste and explore a grape varietal or particular region--do this a dozen times a year and you'll know more about wine than half the servers in snooty restaurants.) • Santorini Taverna & Grill

    Santorini Taverna & Grill

13000 Technology Drive Eden Prairie, MN 55344
    952-546-6722

http://www.santorinimn.com With its replicas of ancient Greek artifacts, nightclub atmosphere, and booze-fueled bar crowds hitting the dance floor, Santorini Taverna is the My Big Fat Greek Wedding of local Greek restaurants-a fun-loving island vacation. (Santorini's is owned by members of the Nicklow family, the group behind the eponymous restaurant in Crystal, along with several other local dining establishments, whose followers are known to pack the place as tight as rice-filled grape leaves.) When it comes to food, stick with a "when in Greece" approach, as the traditional fare is what Santorini's does best. The Greek Peasant Sampler is loaded with Greek-American's greatest hits (spinach pie, stuffed grape leaves, thin slices of gyro meat with tzatziki yogurt dip) and lesser-known items, such as loukaniko, a spicy, fennel-tinged sausage, and a phyllo-wrapped pastichio, which is a bit like a portable moussaka. And don't forget an order of flaming cheese--Opah! More >>

    612-729-4365

http://www.schoonertavern.com A true locals-type bar right in the heart of Seward. The well-worn, nautical-themed (natch) interior gives the feeling that's it been here since Minneapolis was incorporated as a city. Order a Heggie's pizza if you get hungry or just belly up and listen to local cover, blues, funk and soul bands that play on the weekends. More >>

Now it's the center of a four-story club complex, retrofitting the old multiplex into a dance club and live music space with the kind of booming sound and open sightlines that concert spaces demand.
