http://www.cosmosrestaurant.com It might not be one of the seven wonders of the world, but it sure ranks as one of the seven design wonders of Minnesota. The word breathtaking doesn't even do justice to this Charles-and-Ray-Eames-meet-the-Matrix marvel of a dining room, where elements of classic Modernism are interpreted through natural, elemental materials. The kitchen uses top-shelf ingredients (like meats and cheeses culled from the best farms in the country, including products from some of the best Minnesota farmers). By the time you're swooning over your plate at Cosmos, you will have mastered at least one of the mysteries of the cosmos-namely, where the heck the place is. (Up on the fourth floor of the Graves 601 Minneapolis, on First Avenue, accessible only through the hotel lobby.) More >>
http://www.costellosbar.com This retro-themed watering hole in St. Paul's Cathedral Hill neighborhood promotes good drinks, great food and an attitude-free environment. With a respectable selection of taps and a menu that doesn't consider crab cakes to be bar food, Costello's provides a casual alternative to some of the higher-end Selby Avenue establishments. If you're looking for cheap drinks, wings and burgers in Uptown, the Country Bar fits the bill. This venue also features regular karaoke, DJs, and a casual atmosphere that might remind you of one of your grandpa's rural Minnesota haunts by day but turns over to a younger crowd by night. More >>
http://www.theaftermidnightgroup.com With the recent onslaught of cowboy-themed bars and clubs, Cowboy Jack's has found its niche in the suburban landscape of Plymouth. It's clear from the moment you grab the entry door handle, only to realize it's actually a pistol grip. The story of Wild Bill Hickok's demise is centered above the bar, while saddles, wagon wheels and lantern chandeliers provide additional Old West vibes. Live music is scheduled every night, and the menu items are a couple notches above your average bar food. Feel free to grab a handful of peanuts, and no need to find a place for the empty shells -- the ground is just as good as any. More >>
Cowboy's Saloon looks like a beat-up Wild West saloon from the outside - the door handles consist of antique firearms. Inside, it's still the Wild West, but affluent. It could be the mayor's house, or the sheriff's. A mural depicting a western bar scene accents the pool room wall. Softly-lit booths line the walls. A room lit by fireplace sits sectioned off away from the potentially louder bar area. While cowboy-themed country bars continue to pop up around the metro, this place does it right. More >>
http://www.crssportsbar.com There's plenty opportunity to liquor up at C.R.'s Sports Bar, but patrons might want to stay clear-headed for a few games of eight-ball, since this Coon Rapids destination devotes most of its space to a pool hall. Beanbag leagues are also popular, which makes CR's more of a fun-and-games place than a sit-at-the-bar-and-drink establishment. Hungry? Don't worry, Carbone's Pizzeria is attached next door. More >>
http://www.cuzzys.com Situated in a spot of Washington Avenue that's evenly split between old-school warehouses and recently-built condos, Cuzzy's has a vintage dive-bar vibe with none of the negative connotations. Atmosphere is provided by a top 40-filled jukebox and quirky decor (doodled-on dollar bills stapled to the walls and ceiling), but it's Cuzzy's better-than-average bar food, including a steady rotation of specials and a robust breakfast menu, that give this bar its true appeal.
