Zenon Dance Company

Zenon's debut concert at the new Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts seems designed to show the eclectic-electric vibe this company delivers as a matter of course these days. Wit abounds, from Morgan Thorson's sly deconstruction of the dancing body via art history, to Danny Buraczeski's love affair with Benny Goodman's klezmer-infused "Swing Concerto." Premiering is Mariusz Olszewski's "Pink Martini," and it will be intriguing to see what this Polish ballroom dance champ does with '50s cha-cha and mambo styles, set to the music of Rosemary Clooney and Pérez Parado. Daniel Charon's "Storm" had the Zenon dancers charging full force across the big, bouncy stage of the Goodale Theater during the Cowles's grand opening in September. It's the kind of lush, fully loaded dance that galvanizes dancers and audiences alike. (Photos by Steve Niedorf)
