Zenon Dance Company: 26th Fall Season
The Zenon Dance Company hits the ground running in its 26th season with a program that gives these versatile dancers plenty to wrap their highly articulate arms, legs, and torsos around. The overused phrase "wildly eclectic" actually applies to this splendid troupe of performers, who take on a range of repertory that challenges them on several stylistic fronts. Wynn Fricke's new "The Shape of the Wind," set to music performed live by percussive genius Peter O'Gorman, promises Fricke's always stimulating blend of propulsive and visionary choreography. On the jazz end of the spectrum, Cynthia Gutierrez-Garner's "Muévete (Move It)" mixes reggaeton and Latin hip hop. New York's Andrea Miller offers up "Booba" ("doll" in Hebrew), a dance of explosive power and contained relationships that is right up Zenon's physically and emotionally charged alley. In addition to these three premieres, the company will reprise Doug Varone's powerful anthem to urban anxiety "Of the Earth Far Below" and Keely Garfield's sassy "Scent of Mental Love."
Thu., Nov. 20, 7:30 p.m.; Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 7 p.m. Starts: Nov. 20. Continues through Nov. 30, 2008
