Youth Farm Spring Fest
As the childhood obesity epidemic continues in this country, one organization here in Minneapolis aims to help kids discover better eating habits while teaching leadership skills, community participation, and positive self-identity. Founded in 1995, the Youth Farm and Market Project provides opportunities for children, teens, and young adults age 9 to 24 with a year-round program that focuses on food and community in an urban environment. Currently, this nonprofit serves over 600 young participants who work together to grow, harvest, and sell their produce. They also learn and teach each other how to cook healthy meals. This Thursday, Summit Brewery will host Youth Farm's spring fundraiser. Here, revelers will be able to sample a variety of offerings from many of Minneapolis's top chefs and restaurants, including treats from Barbette, Birchwood Café, Common Roots, Salty Tart, and Alex Roberts, chef and owner of Restaurant Alma and Brasa Rotisserie. There will also be an abundance of fun to be had by way of music, games, and dancing. The price of admission includes all the Summit ale you can drink. One-hundred percent of the proceeds from ticket sales from the evening will go to Youth Farm. Visit youthfarmspringfest2012.eventbrite.com for tickets.
