Young Dance: Found in Translation
Young Dance gives kids ages 7 to 18 a chance to work with professional choreographers, and, maybe more importantly, a chance for dance makers to mine the freshness and enthusiasm of these talented young folks. "Found in Translation" marks the 27th anniversary of this vibrant ensemble, with works ranging from West African-based movement by Kenna Cottman to a contemporary riff on classical ballet by Penelope Freeh. Laurie Van Wieren contributes a work inspired by characters who impact the dancers' own lives, while Super Group uses improvisational structures to explore the line between control and chaos. Local postmodern dance heroes Chris Schlichting and Morgan Thorson have some fun with iconic dance forms, including jazz, ballet, Lindy Hop, and swing. Get a glimpse of tomorrow's stars movin' on up.
