Works on Paper/7 Artists
Burnet Gallery's latest group show, "Works on Paper/7 Artists," showcases how varied visual art can be — even when artists share the same starting point. Karen Gustafson's pieces, for example, feature vine-like patterns in subdued gray, cream, and beige tones. Justin Quinn creates paper collages on pounded silver, giving his works an unexpected multidimensional quality. Elizabeth Simonson's ink and pencil drawings pop with bursts of color in patterns reminiscent of floral bouquets and stained-glass windows. Meanwhile, Caroline Kent's pieces utilize text describing photographs in two different ways. First, she lays out how she would describe the image to herself, then she writes out how she would describe the same image to someone else. Other Minnesota artists exhibiting include John Fleischer, Jessica Henderson, and Nate Young. There will be an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 15.
