Wits: Special Edition
Brevity may be the soul of wit, but a little extra Wits is definitely a good thing. The comedy-centric variety show, which not long ago wrapped up its second season, has quickly become one of the most engaging and entertaining regular series on the radio, and it's even more fun live, pairing comedically adroit writers and performers with ace musicians for a sprawling and scintillating conversation led by host John Moe and self-described "musical guide" John Munson. There's a nifty interactive Twitter component and always some surprises in store. The lineup for the third season has yet to be announced, but fans should be tided over with this bonus edition featuring John Hodgeman, who has appeared on the program previously and is cheekily referred to by the Wits crew as "our favorite minor television personality." Hodgeman's recurring deadpan segments on The Daily Show pit him as an improbably egomaniacal nerd whose bespectacled, buttoned-down look belies over-the-top self-confidence, a theme continued in his book trilogy, Complete World Knowledge, the final volume of which, That Is All, was recently released. Hodgeman will be joined by singer/songwriter John Darnielle, frontman (and sometimes onlyman) of the Mountain Goats.
