Wild Style 25th Anniversary Party
When Wild Style was released 25 years ago, hip hop was still a baby of a cultural phenomenon. Originally released in 1982, the classic flick will be screened this Saturday at the Uptown Theatre. The story follows two graffiti artists as they create art, party, and live in the burgeoning South Bronx hip-hop scene. The movie culminates in an enormous party--one that is still notorious to this day--and features DJs and musicians like Grand Master Flash, Double Trouble, and Fantastic Freaks, to name only a few. In addition to the screening, Uptown Theatre will have a themed hip-hop party of its own, with live graffiti creation, breakdancing by b-boys and -girls, as well as music by Plain Ole Bill.
