Finding the humor in the mundane is a specialty of the Recovery Party, an acclaimed company of satirists known for such funny works as Department of Redundancy Department and Sex & Sensibility. Deconstructing the barrage of choices that confronts us at every turn, the company’s latest production, Why We Can’t Have Nice Things, will be heavy on improv, with each sketch flowing into the next to culminate in one comically unhinged summation. This loosely scripted format lends the comics room to stretch their creativity while allowing for inspired in-the-moment humor. Such spontaneity is a skill wielded only by the deftest of performers, so it’s a fine thing the Recovery Party includes such exceptional talents as Jeffrey Cloninger, Dennis Curley, Eriq Nelson, Jim Robinson, and Joshua Will (who also serves as director).
